Sore, soggy, and a bit wind-burnt in the face from constant north-blowing gales, the GearJunkie team is back from California and an adventure on the state’s infamous Lost Coast. As we reported in a post a few days back, this week four of us traveled to northern California to film the first episode in a video series we’re launching in April called “Off The Map.”
We picked the remote shoreline in California for its beauty, challenge, and the mystique it retains in backpacking circles. The Lost Coast did not disappoint! The remote stretch of coastline in Mendocino and Humboldt counties offered us sporty weather — 40 degrees, huge winds, and endless sideways rain! — plus a challenging trek where high tides and a cliff-hewn shoreline kept everyone alert and on the move.
