Contest: 'Knives and a Kayak!'
December 15, 2010, 1:33 pm
Continuing in the sprit of the season, this week as a part of our ‘SPOT the Holiday’ promotion, we’re giving away an Old Town Kayak and six Gerber knives! Indeed, seven lucky Gear Junkie readers will be happy campers — or boaters! — on Christmas day this year. Details on how to enter below. But first, to the prizes. . .
GRAND PRIZE: Old Town Canoes & Kayaks Camden 120 — Loaded with features heretofore unavailable in a recreational kayak, the Camden 120 has a smooth-planing hull for speed, a watertight hatch in the bulkhead, and a “dashboard” area with a fishing rod mount, a hatch, and a rubberized storage system with a cup holder. The 12’6’‘ craft is made of a single layer of polyethylene. Cruise in comfort and with speed! $899.99 value.
RUNNERS UP: Gerber Mini-Remix — With a minimalist aesthetic and a subtle cool, the Mini-Remix is made of stainless steel and anodized aluminum. It has a unique open pivot that doubles as a place to clip. With a two-inch blade, the Mini-Remix is lightweight, sturdy, and in many situations all you’re going to need. $30 value. Six knives to give away!
How to Enter: The reader with the best response to the question — Why do you NEED the Old Town Camden 120 kayak this winter? — will win. It’s that simple. Answer in 140 characters or less (or about two sentences) on GearJunkie’s Facebook page or on Twitter using the hashtag #SPOTHOLIDAY. Bonus points awarded based on incorporating the words “Old Town” and/or “Gerber” into the post.
We’ll assess all the answers and subjectively pick the one we think is the best. Be creative and fun, and make a true and good case for why you need a kayak! Contest ends on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, at 11:59p.m. We will announce the winners shortly thereafter. Good luck!
I NEED the Old Town Camden 120 kayak this winter so I can lose all of this weight that I am putting on from the holidays and all of this new weight from quitting smoking . Nothing beats a crystal clear lake surrounded by snow covered landscape all from the views of a kayak.
I would love to have the Old Town Camden because last spring I came down to Old Town to the sale to purchase a kayak and yes, I came home with one. However. my husband was going to use the kid’s little one with a weight restriction of 220 lb……AND he is 6’6 and weighs 230. We thought we’d give it a shot and out we went. He was even with the water and it started to pour in the top, and we ended up switching. So, with the the Old Town Camden, we would be able to go together in comfort and he won’t be waterlogged. lol. :)
I just sold my car… and most of my belongings to come intern in Patagonia for the Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race here in Chile. Having a kayak down here to explore would be such an awesome gift! The knife would have come in handy when we went camping/backpacking in the Torres del Paine this past week. It would be great to have for future trips!
My nine year old ‘Gerber baby’ and I go old-school camping around Old Town(s) and lakes in Alberta, Canada. We’d love to strap that goldenrod Camden 120 to our roof rack and head out on the water instead of watching people from the shoreline this year! **Best Mom Ever award just around the bend! ;)
I would enjoy the oldtown because my significant other already has one and well it’s just no fun paddling around alone all the time. Also I’d like to paddle around the world just because it’s freaking round! I’ll also share my winnings with whomever is in the pacific north west. Perhaps we can raffle it back off next season. I’m cool with a “test ride” in order to share the love of the outdoors. Cheers and happy holidays to those who celebrate and happy festivus for the rest of us!
Would love the chance to own an Old Town camden kayak!!! I love to kayak, being outside, peace on a lake.. I recently quit smoking and will need to stay healthy, and what better way to exercise, I am 55yrs old and have loved to kayak for a long time. I had to sell my kayak last year due to money problems…….
I need one so we can put an extra boat in the water with the Des Moines River Rescue unit, and so I can join the rest of the guys with the Police Paddle Club,“The River Pigs” on an outing or two. I have an old canoe, but a kayak is faster and more maneuverable. It’s a bit like the difference between a tactical pursuit interceptor, and a standard issue squad car.
The reason we would like one? Our family is currently expanding, and having grown up around local rivers, I look forward to sharing the outdoors with my daughters! With our current life so busy, we are looking to relax more in 2011, so send one our way, and we will paddle away. Thanks, and Merry Christmas to all!!

The reason you should ask me where to send my Awesome New Old Town Camden 120 Kayak is because I am a bad mamma jamma!!! I used to kayak all the time but had to sell my kayak which I have regret everyday. I would love to be able to kayak with my buddies but cant afford to purchase one at the time. We could have an awesome weekend and spend the day kayaking and then set up camp and use my Awesome Gerber Mini-Remix which my friends would be drolling over haha. I would love to win something even if it was just a sticker so please PICK ME!!!
