New Product: Gnat Stove
March 04, 2010
At a mere 1.6 ounces, Monatauk Outdoors’ minuscule Gnat stove is touted as the “world’s lightest production camp stove.” It is made of titanium and has an aluminum base. The stove works with butane canisters and is targeted at backpackers hoping to shave any extra weight.
But heat output is not compromised. The stove is rated at 11,000 btu for heat output, and the company says it can boil a liter of water in less than four minutes. Its size is about 2.25 × 2.25 × 2.5 inches folded up, and it comes with a hard plastic case for storage. The Gnat Stove, which has a three-year warranty, is available now for $59.95. I don’t particularly care for fuel canisters either, for the same reason – not recyclable, and I never really know just how much fuel is in there. white gas is my mainstay in the winter, Trangia alcohol stove with clikstand at all other times.
However this looks like a really nice stove for canister use. Really can’t beat the weight -even lighter than my Optimus Crux.

Am I the only one that hates fuel canisters? Are they recyclable yet? I’m still baffled by outdoor companies continuing to use them. I’m sticking to my refillable white gas…
