GoLite Peak Backpack
August 12, 2009
If you’re all about shedding pounds and possibly shedding comfort, the GoLite Peak pack is up your alley. The company, which lives up to its name, produced a 1-pound, 11-ounce pack (for the medium-sized version). Depending on the size of pack you choose to match your torso length, the Peak will hold up to 36, 38 or 40 liters of gear. That’s perfect for a weekend trip.
With a handful of zippered pockets, water bottle and trekking pole pockets, ice axe loops and a hydration bladder sleeve, the pack is like many others on the market. But its minimalist attitude sets it apart. The Peak includes GoLite’s Convertabelt detachable hip belt that helps cut weight by using only the waist strap for minimalist support and stability. Even the back pad is removable. The Peak, which comes in blue/gray, black/gray and green/gray, will be available in February 2010 for $125. http://www.golite.com

It looks like the next version of the Jam. I would agree with Steve that this pack is much more capable than the reviewer implies. I would be curious if the side compression straps have been modified to allow them to attach across the back, that is one of my few complaints with the current Jam. The detachable waistbelt seems like it could be an unnecessary complexity.
You all are CLOSE. This pack is in the same lineup as the Jam (no longer the Jam2 in’10) and the Pinnacle but is smaller than both.
In Mens sizing, the Pinnacle is 72 or 76L, the Jam is 51 or 54L, and the Peak apparently is 36-40L.
The Pinnacle replaced the Gust a few years back.
