ISPO BrandNew Award

I journeyed to the ISPO trade fair in Munich, Germany, last summer, and the BrandNew Awards were among the most intriguing items on the show floor.

The BrandNew Award is the largest competition in the industry for new products and startup companies. This winter’s winners were just announced. . .

1. Jochum & Nesler Speedrider
(a kite-skiing product that combines a parachute and a paraglider to enable “flying over snow”)

2. Streetstepper Boddybuddy
(bike-like contraption sans pedals; stair-step action powers the ride)

3. Bombdesign
(Handbags, for women—not sure what the outdoors connection is)

4. Westcomb I Rebel Hoody
(this waterproof-breathable shell has an mp3 player remote control built in + tangle-free cables that snake unencumbered through the garment)

5. Trampboard
(a snowboard dummy specifically designed for trampolines where ‘boarders can practice tricks)

6. Blatand
(turns a cell phone into a “personal trainer” with heart-rate monitor adapter, etc.)

7. Headzone
(helmet with built-in radio; waterproof)
