Tote-a-Boat Kayak — Funded late last year via a Kickstarter campaign with $443,806 (after a more humble $80,000 goal), the Oru Kayak made its OR Show debut. We were impressed with the origami-like design, which employs a corrugated plastic (polyethelyne) skin.
You can fold it up and check it on a plane. At a river or ocean destination the $1,095 kayak unpacks to reveal a full size, 12-foot kayak that weighs just 25 pounds. It’s strong, buoyant, nimble, and capable of taking a spray skirt to roll, brace, and function much like a regular boat.
