The industry-backed Bikes Belong Foundation has changed its name to PeopleForBikes, and with that the Boulder, Colo., organization is looking to get one million people on board.

Since 1999, Bikes Belong has raised millions of dollars for bike projects around the country. It has helped with passing bike-friendly legislation and with grants for projects related to biking in the urban infrastructure.

Now, with PeopleForBikes the group hopes to clarify its message and get more people involved.

The pledge is a first step. It’s a simple and easy-to-agree-with few sentences, beginning: “I am for bikes. I’m for long rides and short rides. I’m for commuting to work, weekend rides….

Beyond the pledge, the group launched a new website and blog and, as noted, changed its name.

Said Tim Blumenthal, President of PeopleForBikes, “One strong brand will help PeopleForBikes lead the effort to transform bicycling in America.”

See the Pledge text below, and read it here online to sign up if you’re onboard. We did.
