In a true technology-meets-the-outdoors moment, Recon Instruments is in the midst of designing a ski/snowboard goggle that gives you everything from altitude to hang time via a small display on the inside of the lens. Slated to launch next fall, the high-end goggles will feature a 15mm diagonal micro display that can show real-time speed, vertical gain/loss, temperature, jump hang-time, and altitude. It has a stopwatch and GPS capability for rescue scenarios as well.

The Vancouver company has technology for this goggle lens in the works that incorporates GPS to let you see where your friends are on the mountain. Resort trail maps projected on the inside of your goggle for easy navigation will be incorporated into a future release, too.

The goggle will weigh 120 grams, and it will come in two varieties. Both will feature Recon’s technology, but the difference will be in the quality of the lens and resolution of the picture, which is to be determined.

The Recon goggles will be available in September or October 2010 for between $350 and $450. www.reconinstruments.com
