Mountain Meteor Tents
December 02, 2009
New this winter, Sierra Designs created a couple high-end expedition tents built to withstand the “toughest mountaineering conditions.” The Mountain Meteor comes in a two- and three-person rendition and is Sierra Designs’ first four-season tent to incorporate the company’s eye-pole system, which increases interior room. The pole system is shaped like an eye with a pole extending from both corners.
When set up, a short pole extends from the ground toward the opposite corner — or in the case of the Mountain Meteor, the opposite side — but splits with a “Y” joint and starts the eye shape. When the eye comes together on the other side of the tent, another “Y” joint connects it and another short pole extends to the ground.
The company claims the design increases strength and adds to a tent’s “interior usable space” by making tent walls more vertical.
The two-door, two-vestibule Mountain Meteor tents will be available in January starting at $549. www.sierradesigns.com
