Smith Pivlock Sunglasses
August 10, 2009, 11:03 pm / Categories: Miscellaneous
Made with the optics minimalist in mind, Smith’s Pivlock sunglass system combines functionality with a lightweight design. The company’s patent-pending frameless system eliminates frame interference with sightlines and allows for quick lens changes. Smith included its system in the V90 and V90 Max sunglasses, which differ in the size of the lens. Both glasses are comprised of a nosepiece and two earpieces (bows), so swapping lenses is as easy as removing the nosepiece and tilting the earpieces at a 45-degree angle to detach them.
The minimal design helps keep the glasses at between 25.4 grams and 26.7 grams, depending on the model. For that reason, they’d be ideal for trail or road running. According to the company, the lenses incorporate Smith’s tapered lens technology, which means they get thinner from the center to the edge to deliver “optically precise vision.” Both the V90 and the V90 Max, which come in various lens and frame colors, are currently in stores for $119 with no additional lenses or $139 with two extra lens sets. www.smithoptics.com
