Video: 'Bouldering the Great Plains'
June 29, 2012, 6:50 am / Categories: Climbing
For episode No. 4 in our “Off The Map” video series, sponsored by Yakima, we travel to western Minnesota in search of some of the most obscure rock climbing on the continent. The episode, “Bouldering the Great Plains,” highlights the unlikely and rare rock — and the rare climbers who pursue it! — on a landscape dominated not by mountains but wheat fields, dirt roads, and old farms. Climb on!
—For a different kind of adventure, watch episode No. 1, “The Lost Coast,” in our Off The Map series, which covers a trek on California’s Pacific Coast.
I’m surprised you guys didn’t make it to Blue Mounds State Park, the bouldering scene there is super obscure, one guy has been developing the whole thing and has put out a somewhat secret guidebook. I used to live close by, I live in SLC now and can vouch that some of the problems there are world class.
