Welcome to GearJunkie.com's Teva Mountain Games
April 14, 2009
In 2006, as a penultimate training weekend before embarking on the 10-day-long Primal Quest Utah Adventure Race, I traveled to Vail, Colo., for the Teva Mountain Games, a premier outdoors festival for pro and amateur athletes. My team raced in a 5k mountain run, whitewater rafted on the Eagle River, and then trekked, climbed, biked, and boated for eight hours through an adventure race course that traced in the mountains over Vail.
This year, GearJunkie.com is heading back to Vail for the games. From June 4 – 7, me and other Gear Junkie athletes will compete in multiple events, including the GNC Ultimate Mountain Challenge, a multisport event that has a 10K footrace, a crosscountry mountain biking leg, a road-biking “hill climb” event, and the “Bud Light Lime Class II Down River Sprint,” a kayaking race.
This new section of the Gear Junkie web site was created to highlight the Teva Mountain Games and my training leading up to the event. Along the way, I’ll be testing gear, training to stay in shape, and preparing to travel to Vail in June for the weekend of adventure.
This year’s games will include more than 20 major athletic events, from freeride biking competitions to raft paddlecross. The games will host the World Cup bouldering championships, trail- and road-running races, and non-athletics events like a mountain photography content, an adventure film school, a gear demo area (we’ll be there!), and live music at night.
Stay tuned to this blog for training updates, gear reviews, and news on the Teva Mountain Games, a festival that’s now become the premier outdoor adventure event in the country.
