New Take On Climbing Skins — These skins are made of plastic, not mohair. Entirely unique to the U.S. market, the Profoil is a waterproof, lightweight backcountry ski base attachment that effectively snaps on a fish-scale type traction setup to the bottom of your ski.

The skins were durable feeling and high-quality in the hand at OR. Fischer says they climb as well as traditional skins but have better glide. We can’t wait to find out for ourselves on some high alpine terrain soon. ($299; fall 2015)
