The North Face Superlight 35 Sleeping Bag Review

The North Face Superlight Sleeping Bag review

Super light indeed! At just over a pound this half-zip sleeping bag is excellent for backpacking. It has a traditional mummy shape but still has a little room to move, especially in the shoulders and feet.

I found the Superlight was true to its temperature rating and I was warm in a tent at 34 degrees.

I wanted to put the water-repellent 800-fill ProDown to the test: a four-minute dunk in a stream. I rubbed hard on the bag to try to work the water into the down. After pulling it from the water and shaking it off I was happy to see the bag retained its loft pretty well. The outer material took on a little water but the down held up great.

What I Liked

The North Face Superlight Sleeping Bag FootboxThe fabric in this sleeping bag is top-notch. The inner fabric is plush and feels incredible. It’s the softest sleeping bag I’ve ever used. On the outside, The North Face used a water-resistant Neovant Air fabric around the head and footbox. This adds abrasion and moisture protection to the areas that will rub the ground most, extending the life of the bag.

This was the first center zip sleeping bag I’ve used, I’m a big fan. It’s easier to zip/unzip in the dark. What’s more, it provides even venting when unzipped on hot nights, unlike side-zip bags where one side of your body is cold and exposed. It also has a zippered footbox if your feet get too warm.

Lastly, the draft collar has two drawcords to cinch it shut. No more guessing which side it’s on in the dark.

What I Didn’t Like

The half zip makes it more difficult to get in and out of if you’re hammock camping. As this isn’t really a hammock sleeping bag, it’s more of an observation than a gripe, but worth noting.
