Busted! A 64-year-old Vancouver woman was arrested for allegedly blocking mountain bike trails in North Vancouver. She was caught in the act by two bikers who set up motion activated trail cameras in response to vandalism and dangerous barricades appearing at the Quarry and Lower Skull trails on a regular basis between Aug. 1 and Dec. 29., which are located on the North Shore of Vancouver.

According to a report in the Vancouver Sun, logs were placed on the steep trails in such a way that they could surprise a mountain biker and cause the rider to be seriously injured and catapulted over the handlebars.

“On Jan. 4 at approximately 5 a.m., acting on that evidence we pretty much caught her in the act at the head of Quarry Trail,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong of the North Vancouver RCMP.

The woman, an area resident, was arrested and ordered to stay away from the trail. The woman’s identity has not yet been released.

“These are serious charges – these are public trails and one should not interfere with the lawful enjoyment of the trails and set up traps or obstacles to potentially endanger the lives of people using them,” De Jong said.

Police have recommended to Crown Counsel that she be charged with setting a trap and mischief to property. She’s scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 4.
