[leadin]After spending years attending the Burning Man Festival in Nevada, where campers bake under the sun for days, one inventor had an idea.[/leadin]

The result is Shift Pods, which are tents made with a thick, insulating and reflective material to regulate temperature inside.

This is not your average car camping tent — it weighs 64 pounds! The pod is bulky, and it is made to remain setup for days in harsh environments.

Tent Build

The reflective nylon fabric comes in silver, and it’s marketed as a three-layer insulated shell. There are six windows and waterproof zippers that keep the rain and dust out.

It has “ports” in the side for power cords and slots to connect a portable air conditioner on one end. the floor zips out for cleaning.

At 6.5 feet tall, the 12-foot x 12-foot “pod” tent can fits an inflatable queen-size air mattress and even a portable toilet (if you want to go there!).

Burning Man Link

They are made in partnership with the Burning-Man-based, “nondenominational spiritual organization” Shift. Each tent purchased sends money to a charity Shift supports.

The organization sells its pods for $800 apiece. We can see only a few places that this dome might be practical, but they come to market next month, just in time to order one for your trip to Burning Man.

–The brand is currently raising funds on Kickstarter
