A new tent by Sierra Designs maximizes interior space by flipping traditional construction upside-down.

The Tensegrity Elite has the same size footprint as its dome or pup-tent counterpart, but with inverted walls for more torso and shoulder space when sitting.

The lightweight tent (1 person — 1 lb, 11 oz; 2 person — 2 lb, 3 oz) uses trekking poles for support.

Windows and doors can be completely unzipped for ease of entry and exit and have 12” awnings so they can stay open in rain.

The awning can be used in a couple configurations, including an “open pitch” with two extra trekking poles to make large space outside the door for cooking.

We honored the Tensegrity with a “Best In Show” award at the Outdoor Retailer convention last summer and plan to put it through the paces soon. It is now available for $400 (1 Person) or $490 (2 person).

A slightly heavier model is less expensive. The Tensegrity 2 FL 2 Person weighs 2 lb 10 oz and costs $390. The 1 person weighs 2 lb and costs $320.
