In the way a well-crafted knife catches your eye, so too can a distinguished watch. Citizen unveils new technologies paired with classic style.

Citizen pioneered the use of titanium in watches, a material that modern backpackers and outdoor enthusiasts clamor for when assembling ultralight kits. Those decades of working with titanium helped inform Citizen’s creation of Super Titanium, which, according to brand research, is 40% lighter than stainless steel and five times more scratch-resistant.

Like solid titanium, the material is rust-resistant and hypoallergenic. But Citizen has further engineered it to be even more scratch-resistant, using its proprietary coating called Duratect. Plus, Citizen’s Eco-Drive timepieces contain a lithium-ion cell that turns light into energy, so no battery change is ever required.

The new Super Titanium collection shows off the brand’s different styles encased in its latest material advancement.

All the watches in the Super Titanium collection use Citizen Eco-Drive technology, so they’re powered by light (not just sunlight) and don’t need a battery. Some models include a power reserve meter, and a few hours in the sun will charge the watch for days.

The treatments and surface-hardening tech used to make Super Titanium enabled designers to create a sturdy casing with a scratch-resistant finish and a next-to-skin feel that shouldn’t irritate the wrist. It also resists sweat and water, which is a requirement for anyone who spends time outdoors.

A watch’s appeal is a mix of exterior styling and interior function. Citizen manufactures nearly all of the elements in its watches, including the machines used to make the watch parts. This provides Citizen with the control needed for extremely precise parts manufacturing, and it contributes to the quality of their watches.

Styles Made Lighter

Watch buyers looking for a certain level of function and features will find options within this collection ranging from a classic dial face to a professional diver’s companion. That’s one reason you’ll find case sizes between 41mm and 53mm within the Super Titanium collection.

Aviation fans and international travelers can get the most out of the Promaster Skyhawk A-T, which uses atomic timekeeping in 43 cities, dual digital time zone displays, and a rotating slide rule bezel.

For a different set of features, there’s the Tsuno Chronograph Racer. It has a hand-assembled movement, chronograph, alarm, and a power reserve indicator.

Similar to the Armor model pictured above, the Armor Chronograph adds chronograph dials on the face and a tachymeter bezel around it. The 1/5-second chronograph measures up to 60 minutes, and the bezel rotates to reveal the crown. If you don’t know how to measure speed (or distance) with a tachymeter, consider it a new life skill — like learning knots.

A date display, silver-toned hour markers, and luminous hands complete the watch’s styling. A sapphire crystal covers its face, secured in its 44mm case. It is water-resistant to 100 meters. Plus, its link bracelet watchband with a fold-over clasp is also made of Super Titanium.
