In the Adaptive Climbing Group, paraclimbers have cultivated community, love, and a way to feel powerful.

When Kareemah Batts lost a leg to cancer, she did something no one expected — started the Adaptive Climbing Group.

Batts brought together people with a range of disabilities for rock climbing trips, and the group has since grown into a crucial form of support for its diverse members.

“All of our program leaders — they’re not paid to be here,” Batts says. “We all just want to be here.”
