For 2021, every Dodge vehicle will sport a supercharged 6.2L HEMI Hellcat V-8 engine and over 700 horsepower. And that includes an unlikely candidate — the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat.

In the automotive world, the word “Hellcat” brings to mind superpowerful Dodge muscle cars. But for one year only, Dodge will also build the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat special edition. Expect them to sell through quickly — and become instant American muscle collector cars. We say that without even knowing the price tag, which Dodge hasn’t yet announced. You can put your order in this fall, with deliveries starting in early 2021.

Has there ever been a more powerful outdoor adventure shuttle rig than this new Durango SRT Hellcat? No. This three-row, seven-passenger, all-wheel-drive SUV can tow and haul a ton of people and gear just about anywhere — and really, really quickly!

HEMI Hellcat Power!

Dodge claims that the new Durango is “the most powerful SUV ever.” That claim is hard to dispute when you look at the numbers. The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat produces 710 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque. That power comes from the factory of a big manufacturer, offering full warranties and nationwide dealer support.

You expect those kinds of numbers from specialty aftermarket tuners. You don’t expect them to be available at your local car dealership.

While that’s a ton of ponies under the hood, it’s the least amount of power found in any of Dodge’s 6.2L HEMI Hellcat V-8-powered vehicles. The 2020 Challenger SRT Super Stock puts out an insane 807 horsepower, while the 2021 Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye delivers 797 horsepower.

Without a doubt, the aftermarket will be able to find even more ponies under the new Durango Hellcat’s hood. We’re not sure why you’d ever need more power than that, though.

Durango SRT Hellcat Performance

The SUV in your driveway just can’t compete against this new Durango in terms of performance. The Durango Hellcat can reach 0-60 mph in an eye-watering 3.5 seconds. It can also dispense of the quarter-mile in just 11.5 seconds, as certified by the NHRA. If raw speed is your poison, then a 180-mph top speed should wake you up.

Not only is the Durango SRT Hellcat fast in a straight line, but it can also handle turns at impressive speeds. Dodge’s muscle car formula impresses with raw numbers and speed. Dodge is continually refining it into a truly enjoyable, holistic, and sporty driving experience package. We have a feeling this Durango will be seriously smile-inducing to drive, and we can’t wait to get behind the wheel.

Oh yeah. You even get Launch Control in the Durango SRT Hellcat. That feature is designed for perfect performance while racing on a drag strip. Stop signs have never been so much fun in an SUV!

Durango SRT Hellcat Features

Not only is there big power under the hood and impressive performance numbers, but the Durango SRT Hellcat also offers aggressive looks inside and out.

Outside, you get all the aggressive lines and muscular bulges you’d expect from a Dodge SRT product. For the Durango Hellcat, those features culminate in a front lip spoiler and rear hatch spoiler. These combine to provide serious downforce gains for this big SUV. The 20×10-inch SRT black wheels wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion Zero (295/45ZR20) all-season performance tires look amazing and allow you to put all that power to the ground and keep the big brakes cool.

The new Durango SRT Hellcat offers a driver-focused cockpit with a ton of sporty touches that exceed expectations. Red-accented gauges, forged carbon fiber interior accents, and heated and cooled Nappa leather with suede front seats let you know this machine is about performance. You also get the latest Uconnect 5 infotainment system with a 10.1-inch touch screen.

Bring All the Toys

As with all Durangos, you can expect impressive gear-hauling and towing numbers. We don’t know the cargo capacity just yet, but the Durango SRT Hellcat offers a class-leading towing capacity of 8,700 pounds.

“The Brotherhood of Muscle includes families of all sizes and the Durango delivers Dodge performance as the Charger of the three-row SUV segment,” said Tim Kuniskis, Global Head of Alfa Romeo and Head of Passenger Cars – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America.

“And new for 2021, we have raised the bar even higher. The 710-horsepower Hellcat is the most powerful SUV ever. It’s the last piece of the puzzle and, alongside the Charger and Challenger, completes the Dodge brand’s performance lineup.”

For 2021, Dodge claims to offer “the most powerful SUV ever,” the “world’s quickest and most powerful muscle car,” and the “most powerful and fastest mass-produced sedan in the world.” Those are some lofty claims and some impressive vehicles.

We’re itching to get behind the wheel of all these beasts, especially this new Durango SRT Hellcat. We’d love to see what kind of chest-thumping supercharger noises we can coax from the exhaust as we mash the skinny pedal.

The first step would be to not crash it. Step two would be to load it up with friends and gear and head off on an adventure.
