Ever wondered what goes into winning the legendary 90K du Mont-Blanc trail race? The new film ‘What It Takes’ shows you exactly … well, you know.

Switching gears from shorter distances to a straight-up gnarly 90K ultra through the technical mountains of Chamonix is an admirable feat. And a win would be the cherry on top.

But the trails on Mont-Blanc are known to be anything but easy. With 6,000 m (19,600 feet) of elevation gain packed into a technical, 90km course in the high Alps, the 90K du Mont-Blanc is a true test of skill, grit, and character. And while not as famed as the 170km, 10,000m+ gain course of the OG UTMB course, the 90K presents its own unique challenge.

“Hillary Gerardi completed the famous 110K Haute Route in a blistering 26 hours with her partner Valentine Fabre — in turn establishing the fastest female time for the route,” Black Diamond prefaced. So obviously, Gerardi is up to the 90K challenge.

Black Diamond’s “What It Takes” film highlights Gerardi’s attempt to push herself on the course, and aim for the win. What would it take to achieve this? Heavy training, a crew, mental endurance, lots of strategy, and more.
