Review Patagonia Long-Sleeved All Weather Top For Cool-Weather Runners

The Patagonia Men’s Long-Sleeved All Weather Top combines polyester with mesh for a warm and breathable garment for cold weather running. A few test runs on just-above-freezing mornings proved the shirt effective if not a lot different from high quality base layers. —Sean McCoy

The Gear: Patagonia Men’s Long-Sleeved All Weather Top for trail running (available now)

Price: $65

Where To Test It: On cool runs when the temps drop below the tee-shirt comfort range.

Who’s It For: Runners who keep pounding the trails on frosty mornings after the leaves have fallen.

Boring But Important: Made from a polyester/spandex blend, the front, arms and shoulders of this techy top are warm and wind resistant. A deep chest zipper allows quick heat dumps. The back is constructed of quick-drying mesh.

Important Specs: Constructed of 5.6 oz. 88% polyester/12% spandex with a mesh back, the garment weighs in at 8.6 oz.

Killer! Soft, comfortable and moderately warm, this well made shirt should last many years. The mesh back panel allows super breathability while the solid front blocks the chill.

Flaw: The shirt competes with less expensive mid-weight base layers.

High quality zippers, mesh back and reflective highlights

First Impression: Cool weather running is comfortable in this purpose-built garment. Get this shirt if you are a trail runner and need a dedicated garment for chilly weather runs. For the budget conscious or fair-weather runner, a simple polyester or merino wool long-sleeved base or mid layer will do a good job and be more versatile.

Our Take: This is a nice base layer with some added features the serious runner will appreciate.
