From tents and backpacks, to headlamps, knives, footwear, jackets, and apparel, our “Treasure Hunt: Roanoke” event on July 11th in Roanoke, Va., promises to be one of the biggest gear extravaganzas ever envisioned! From the prize pool, here’s today’s gear pick of the day. . .

Gear of the Day: JanSport Salish pack

Why you want to win this gear! JanSport is giving away eight of its new Cloud Ripper Series packs, including the $120 Salish. This light daypack is made for hikers and climbers “that are bagging peaks or enjoying single overnights on the trail.” The pack has the requisite meshy shoulder straps and hydration reservoir compatibility. A unique feature, the Salish has a “versa-wing” side pouch system that converts a large mesh compartment into two small gear pockets with a clip. Weighs 3 lbs. 9 oz. and has about 2,100 cubic inches of capacity.
