With fall hiking weather kissing forests across North America, it’s time for many of us to shift from trail running shoes to light hikers in the cooler weather. And REI answers with great deals on boots from several brands through Oct. 24.

If you’re looking for some boots (or outerwear or layers for that matter), hop over to REI Garage this week. For a limited time, everything from Merrell, Columbia, prAna, Black Diamond, and Dakine on sale in the discount section is an extra 25 percent off.

That means it’s a great time to score some boots. I pulled out a few of my favorite deals below, but check out the sale section for all kinds of sweet deals.

Merrell Capra Venture Mid GTX Surround Boots (Men’s & Women’s): $230 $120

Here’s a chance to score some heavy-hitting boots at a heck of a deal. The Merrell Capra has Gore-Tex Surround technology, which helps the boots breathe better than most waterproof-breathable options.

These also have spectacular traction with Vibram Megagrip outsoles and 3.5-mm lugs. This outsole is both sticky and durable — good for both wet and dry surfaces.

At $120, this is a lot of boot for little money.

Merrell All Out Blaze 2 Mid Waterproof Hiking Shoes (Men’s & Women’s):
$150 $78

This leather boot has a waterproof-breathable liner to keep moisture at bay. It also has a Vibram TC5 and rubber outsole for excellent traction. At 1 pound 14 ounces per pair, they’re not much heavier than trail running shoes.

But with a little more support and protection, this is a great light hiker to hit the fall trails. It’ll handle modest winter use too, especially in mild climates. It’s on sale in both men’s and women’s models now.

Columbia Irrigon Trail Mid Outdry Extreme Hiking Shoes (Men’s): $120 $62

Over the years, we’ve used many products with Columbia’s OutDry Extreme waterproof membrane and have been continually impressed. In shoes, it has the advantage of keeping moisture away from the inner materials. This ultimately results in a shoe that never gets heavier, doesn’t tend to freeze, and can be hosed off to wash.

The Irrigon Trail Mid is a good light hiker for shoulder seasons. It’ll keep feet dry in cool temps and through light precipitation. And at this price, it’s a deal.
