Cannondale parent company Cycling Sports Group is recalling thousands of CAADX cyclocross bicycles due to a ‘serious injury hazard’ that has resulted in one death.

Cannondale today recalled nearly 10,000 CAADX cyclocross bicycles in America after receiving numerous reports of serious injury and death.

According to the recall, 2013-2016 model year CAADX bikes, equipped with disc brakes, have a carbon ULTRA X fork that may break while riding.

“Cycling Sports Group has received reports of 11 incidents worldwide of the bicycle’s fork breaking, including five in the United States,” the recall noted. “Seven of these incidents resulted in serious injuries, including concussions and a spinal injury, and there was one fatality.”

Consumers should immediately stop riding their bikes and determine if they may be included in the recall.

As noted, bikes impacted by this recall range from 2013 to 2016 model years and have disc brakes. The bikes sold between August 2012 and August 2017 for $1,000-2,200.

The frame will have prominent “CAADX” graphics on the top tube. More importantly, the inside of the fork blade will have a large “ULTRAX” marking, and the brake cables will run outside the fork blade rather than inside.

Cycling Sports Group estimates it sold 9,700 of these bikes in the U.S. market, with another 1,900 in Canada.

If your bike matches the description above, or if you’re uncertain, do not ride it. Take your bike to an authorized Cannondale dealer to confirm. Cannondale will replace faulty forks at no cost.
