Copper Mountain just got a ski area sibling in the Colorado area in the form of Eldora Mountain Resort.

Eldora, the closest ski resort to Boulder, Colo., was acquired by Powdr, a Park City based company that also owns Copper Mountain, Killington Resort, Pico Mountain, Mt. Bachelor, Boreal Mountain Resort, Soda Springs Mountain Resort, Lee Canyon and Gorgoza Park.

The addition of Eldora to Powdr’s portfolio will give it a slightly stronger presence in the Colorado ski business, which is dominated by Vail Resorts with swath of resorts across the I-70 corridor.

“Colorado’s front range is one of the best ski markets in the world. Expanding our footprint here with now two of the most accessible resorts to serve those passionate skiers is an enormous honor,” said John Cumming, CEO and owner of Powdr, in a release today.

Eldora will be part of the “Rocky Mountain Super Pass Plus” season pass in 2016-17, which also includes unlimited skiing at Copper Mountain, Winter Park, and limited days at Steamboat and Crested Butte in Colorado, Alyeska in Alaska, and resorts in New Zealand and Japan.

Just 21 miles from Boulder, Eldora is a small mountain in Colorado scale, but an important resort for the outdoorsy town and those who live along the Front Range. With a vertical drop of 1,600 feet, Eldora spreads across 680 skiable acres. It opened for skiing in 1962.
