Need a ride to the trailhead? Heading out for a picnic? For a variety of pursuits, REI and Lyft want to incentivize getting outside.
Valid now through April 15, Lyft and REI partner to offer discounts on trips to outdoor locales in six markets. Plus, riders who use the promotion are also entered to win one of two grand prizes: tickets to an outdoor concert or an REI Signature Camping trip. As marketing schticks go, this one at least looks like a no-brainer if you use ride-share apps.
The big caveat: these deals are only valid in Atlanta; Chicago; Denver; San Francisco; Washington, D.C.; and Raleigh-Durham, N.C. But anyone within 30 miles of the designated cities can enter to win REI’s outdoor prizes.
Lyft Discount Rides
Anyone near one of the six metro areas listed above can grab a code for their city and use it for ride discounts. With the code, users will receive up to $5 off six rides to or from predetermined outdoor locations. This varies by city, so check yours here.
Plus, if you’re looking for something to do, the deal provides some ideas for a quick outdoor getaway. Examples include Chimney Gulch Trailhead and Red Rocks Park near Denver, Chicago Botanic Garden and Millennium Park near Chicago, and the United States National Arboretum in D.C.
REI, Lyft: Get Outside Contest
Using the discount code also enters riders into REI’s prize pool. But anyone near the contest areas can enter win an outdoor experience, even without using Lyft.
In each of the six areas, 75 first-prize winners will receive tickets to an “intimate outdoor” concert hosted by Sofar Sounds. According to its website, each show typically includes three artists playing four songs each.
Some of Sofar Sounds’ past headlining artists include Karen O, Bastille, and Leon Bridges. Winners of the outdoor concert can also bring a friend.
And five grand-prize winners in each market will receive a one-night REI Signature campout for them and a friend within 45 miles of city limits. REI provides all tent lodging, food, and activities.
