Just a few seconds of this video below will give you a glimpse into why the Salomon SkyRun in Lady Grey, South Africa, was called off this week.

The clip by racer Rieghard Janse Van Rensburg was filmed just past Avoca, the highest peak in the race, while coming down a 3 meter ledge knows as the Dragonsback.

The full 100km SkyRun is one of the toughest trail runs in South Africa. While weather is definitely a factor in its reputation, the races are also completely unmarked and un-supported, making basic orienteering skills a must.

On another note, this particular video was filmed with the new Garmin Virb Elite camera. If anything, we now know that Garmin’s new device can capture even the most sketchy of scenes, in full-HD, despite 100Km/h winds and pouring rain.
