Fast & Light Pack Design — Arc’teryx impressed with a new alpine climbing pack line, including the Alpha FL 30 and 45 models. These streamlined 30- and 45-liter backpacks have all the features a climber needs, but nothing extra.
Their outer fabric is a tough but lightweight nylon that has a taped and sealed construction to stay watertight. Attachment points are welded on to the fabric, not sewn, to reduce seams and stitching. The packs start at $199 and weigh as little as 21.5 ounces.
There’s no top lid. Instead, a collar and a waterproof roll-top closure seal the packs shut to keep snow, rain, and all elements at bay.
