Today, bear canister maker BearVault launched its first Adventure Ambassador Program. BearVault will award a $500 “adventure stipend,” a free BearVault bear canister, and various swag to each of its chosen ambassadors for use on their outdoor adventures in 2023.

There aren’t a ton of ambassador contract details yet. But the ambassadorship will include a bear canister of your choice and will last for one full year. All you need to do is adventure overnight in bear country and document how you used the bear-resistant canisters in the field.

BearVault now makes a whole lineup (or, as it calls it, the “can fam”) of portable bear canisters for backcountry travelers. That includes the industry-staple BV500 as well as newer models like the BV Trek and BV Sprint, released in 2022. Made in Louisville, Colorado, the brand’s signature see-through canisters are designed with leave no trace and wilderness conservation ethics in mind.

The Adventure Ambassador Program is a perfect job for social-media-savvy backcountry travelers to get some free gear ahead of camping season. It’s also a chance to rep a brand that’s protecting bears with every canister they sell.

The Adventure Ambassador Program seeks to highlight a wide variety of BearVault food storage systems in use, from keeping your lunch safe while fishing or climbing to storing food at camp while paddling, hiking, hunting, or backpacking. BearVault wants to share how you use their products, so people and trips of all “shapes and sizes” are welcome to apply.

The scope of qualifying “adventures” is broad. As long as the adventure destination is in bear country, it qualifies (with a preference for applicants in the U.S. and Canada).

BearVault even promised, if chosen, it could deliver bear cans to selected ambassadors already on the trail. For example, those hiking the AT or PCT could get a canister delivered right to their tent’s vestibule. Or, at least, close enough that they won’t have to completely divert from their objective.

Ambassadors will be required to submit social media assets along the way, like photos, videos, and reels and must agree to the social media terms. BearVault will then broadcast ambassadors’ stories, pictures, and videos through its own pages and profiles.

“While we’d love to go on all these adventures ourselves, it is just not humanly possible,” said Grant Breidenbach, marketing manager at BearVault. “Our bear canisters can travel with ambassadors on their journeys while we can share the joy of their diverse adventures vicariously.”

Applications are available online now. The applications will close on April 1, 2023.
