Chernobyl ‘Exclusion Zone’ Is Thriving With Wildlife

[leadin]In the absence of human interaction, a nearly 20-mile radius around the site of the Chernobyl nuclear meltdown has increasingly become a ‘wild territory’ where animal populations and their habitats are growing.[/leadin]

Nearly 30 years have passed since the disaster that forced the evacuation of an entire town in northern Ukraine. With humans no longer a factor in the natural order, wildlife has taken over.

While population numbers of grey wolves, wild horses, and red foxes have increased, the health of the animals within the area has not yet been determined.
