How far have you hiked in a day (and a night and a day)? For one hiker on the Pacific Crest Trail, 38 hours netted about 118 miles.
Mosquitoes were driving thru-hiker Mike Curtin, 27, crazy on the PCT in July 2018 on Days 60-61 of his hike. At Windigo Pass, Ore., he decided not to stop until he hiked out of mosquito country. Thus, this film was born.
Snippet after snippet, Curtin — trail name Farley (because he had just moved out of a van, though not “down by the river“) — gives a glimpse into the life of a true hiker.
And boy, is he on a mission! The video starts at Windigo Pass and ends at Big Lake Youth Camp, where he ended specifically because “they were serving free vegan waffles in the morning. They were delicious!”
Farley has big plans for this summer, too. “I’m getting on the AT at mile 900 and finishing the section my girlfriend has left to finish, from there ’til Katahdin. After that, we’re planning on Everesting on foot (29,000 feet of elevation change without stopping), and I’m considering going for an unsupported FKT in the Northeast,” he reported.
