In case you didn’t know, Mount Everest may or may not actually be the world’s tallest mountain. Pointing to the roof of the world may seem simple enough, but proving that’s what you’re pointing at is a lot more complicated.

So … how do we really know the summit of Mount Everest is actually 29,032 feet above sea level? And because we’ve never seen it or various other peaks among the world’s tallest side by side, how do we know which one’s actually the tallest?
