Polar Explorer Eric Larsen traveled to the wilds of New York City for presentations at REI and EMS stores with Ryan Lilly, a brand manager for DeLorme.

Well, they decided to check out Times Square.

“Of course, who could pass up a photo op with Elmo,” Larsen said.

Certainly not Eric! We’re not sure which costume is crazier but Eric’s is definitely more expensive. In the photo he’s wearing a DeLorme inReach SE, Bergans of Norway expediton jacket, Optic Nerve Antero goggles (with homemade nose beak), Granite Gear Leopard AC pack, Ergodyne multiband (you can’t see it, but it’s on his head), and custom Ergodyne 819OD Thermal WP Gauntlet gloves.

I’m guessing he was a little warm.

Larsen is currently promoting a deal from DeLorme for two free months of service with the brand’s InReach SE satellite communicator.

Larsen begins his next expedition, an unsupported speed record attempt to ski to the North Pole, in February.
