REI, Eddie Vedder, and 1091 Media collaborate on the ‘Return to Mount Kennedy’ documentary. The film will feature exclusive footage of the original 1965 journey up Yukon’s Mount Kennedy.

In 1965, Jim Whittaker led Senator Robert Kennedy up the first ascent of a remote mountain in the Yukon. The peak was Mount Kennedy, named after the late president JFK.

Fifty years later, the sons (Bobby and Leif Whittaker and Christopher Kennedy) of the original team unite for a return expedition. The documentary blends history and mountaineering into a story of companionship and adventure.

“’Return to Mount Kennedy’ is a film that neatly ties together generations of American mountaineering, music, and politics in a way that audiences are sure to enjoy,” said Paolo Mottola, director of content and media at REI Co-op.

REI will host screenings nationwide beginning October 10. You can find the film schedule here. Also, November 5 marks a worldwide release of the film.
