Earlier this week, SCARPA voluntarily recalled its fall 2017 Maestrale ski boots — but will repair them for free.
The SCARPA Maestrale and Maestrale RS are some of the most popular backcountry ski boots on the market. But the brand found a flaw in a small number of production models and recalled them for repair.
“Under certain conditions, the boot shell may crack, which may render the boots unusable for skiing,” the brand said.
The recall applies only to Maestrale or Maestrale RS 2017 models purchased in North America. It does not apply to any 2018 or 2019 models.
SCARPA’s 2017 Maestrale and RS boots have shells made from carbon-infused Grilamid LFT, which give the touring boot its signature stiffness. The shell in defective products was reportedly prone to cracking in the toe area and lower shell body.
Now, the revamped 2019 Maestrale boots contain a different shell material.

SCARPA urges consumers who purchased affected Maestrale and Maestrale RS ski boots in North America to “cease using them immediately and return them as soon as possible for repair.” SCARPA listed tips on how to identify recalled products on its website and created a helpful video, below.
The brand aims to get customers back in the boots and on the slopes as quickly as possible. Repairs for the recalled boots will take about 1-3 weeks. SCARPA will repair boots in the order they are received. SCARPA’s North American headquarters is located in Boulder, Colorado.
