Swiveling ‘HandStand’ Case for iPad

The company calls it “a revolutionary rotational iPad case that maximizes functionality and protection.” While “revolutionary” might skim toward hyperbole, the rest of this tagline is pretty much true. For the past couple months, after testing a handful of cases for my Apple iPad, the HandStand has surfaced as my favorite of the bunch.

HandStand case swivels and allows for easy grip on one hand

A thick elastic strap on back cinches the case — and subsequently your iPad — onto your hand. It is natural to view the screen and navigate with your free hand. A rotating disc in the hand-strap module lets the case spin 360 degrees to switch from landscape to portrait view in a snap.

I use the case with my iPad inside for everyday use and, on rarer occasions, in the car (when not driving!) or outdoors. The HandStand case has a semi-flexible silicone shell that offers some protection, though don’t count on it for padding if you drop the unit — this is not a “ruggedized” case. There is no weather protection or screen covering either.

Wide elastic strap on back is ‘one-size-fits-all’

But the HandStand’s elastic strap cinches tight on the hand. I have not once come close to letting the computer slip out of grip. It fits the original iPad and the iPad 2.

Overall, for its price tag $49.95, the HandStand has served as a nice case solution around the home and in the field this summer.
