Among the top achievements in climbing last year, this video from Mountain Hardwear reveals some details on Ueli Steck’s ascent of Annapurna’s South Face. “Perfect conditions, perfect weather — it was exactly the right moment,” he says about the 28-hour solo climb.

The video also recounts a rough 2013 Steck had after a major confrontation on Mount Everest. Watch as he gets his “fire inside back” to climb the immense Himalayan face. —Stephen Regenold
