Outdoors companies helped raise almost $30,000 for the Conservation Alliance at the 2009 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market show that took place in Salt Lake City July 21-24. Ahnu, Brooks Running, CamelBak, Columbia Sportswear, Dansko, KEEN, Mountain Khakis, Montrail, Ruff Wear and Stanley Outdoors hosted events or sold products to benefit the group that was formed in 1989 by a handful of outdoors companies.

“We direct our funding to community-based campaigns to protect threatened wild habitat, preferably where outdoor enthusiasts recreate,” the alliance’s Web site states. Basically, it collects annual dues from members and distributes the money to environmental organizations. Past groups the organization helped fund include the Arizona Wilderness Coalition, Colorado Mountain Club, Pacific Rivers Council, Sierra Club of British Columbia and Oregon Wild. www.conservationalliance.com
