My friend and fellow AR freak Gordon Wright alerted me to a new multi-day stage footrace this coming September through the White River and San Isabel National Forests of Colorado. I’m kinda developing more of an interest in ultras, and this race looks to be one of those kill-me-now-type competitions Mr. Wright has looped me into a couple times in the past.

The details are: The GORE-TEX TransRockies Run takes its lead from a sister race in the Alps, where competitors run a segment of mountain trail every day for six days straight, cumulating to a total 125-ish mountain miles. In other words, you run essentially a marathon a day, through the mountains, for six days straight.

Add up all your finish times from the six days of mountain running and you’ll arrive at a total race time, determining an overall rank.

For the GORE-TEX TransRockies Run, which kicks off September 16 at Beaver Creek Resort, runners go through the aforementioned White River and San Isabel National Forests, through the town of Leadville, and finally on to a finish in Aspen.

The cumulative course is 125 miles long, with mountainous trails that ascend for 25,000 feet over the length of the run. Clean and simple.

Look for me (maybe) at the start line this fall.
