Christian DeBenedetti, a New York-based writer, has set up a new website/charity called the Gear Bank (www.thegearbank.org). Essentially, this is a winter-gear/apparel clothes drive directed at gear junkies with too much swag on their hands.

People donate their old or unneeded winter gear—gloves, hats, jackets, sleeping bags, etc.—and the organization will distribute the merchandise to the homeless of New York, which DeBenedetti says now numbers at more than 37,000 adults and children.

Gear Bank will sponsor a party in NYC in early December. Your ticket in the door is a single piece of winter gear to donate to the cause.
