Vail Resorts will acquire 100 percent of Peak Resorts, extending the Epic Pass’s reach across the Midwest and Eastern Seaboard.

Skiers from New England to Kansas City will soon have access to more of the burgeoning portfolio of Vail Resorts mountains. That’s because today, Vail Resorts announced it will acquire Peak Resorts. With it, Vail gains ownership of well-known ski areas like Vermont’s Mount Snow and New York’s Hunter Mountain.

In total, the acquisition will add 17 ski areas to Vail’s Epic Pass, many along the East Coast and reaching across into the Plains. This will provide residents in Cleveland, St. Louis, and more access to Vail’s big-name resorts when they buy a season pass for their local slopes.

“Peak Resorts ski areas in the Northeast are a perfect complement to our existing resorts and together will provide a very compelling offering to our guests in New York and Boston,” said Rob Katz, chairman and CEO of Vail Resorts. “With this acquisition, we are also able to make a much stronger connection to guests in critical cities in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest and build on the success we have already seen with our strategy in Chicago, Minneapolis, and Detroit.”

Vail Acquires Peak Resorts

When it completes the acquisition, Vail will take control of the following ski areas:

  • Mount Snow in Vermont
  • Hunter Mountain in New York
  • Attitash Mountain Resort, Wildcat Mountain, and Crotched Mountain in New Hampshire
  • Liberty Mountain Resort, Roundtop Mountain Resort, Whitetail Resort, Jack Frost, and Big Boulder in Pennsylvania
  • Alpine Valley, Boston Mills, Brandywine, and Mad River Mountain in Ohio
  • Hidden Valley and Snow Creek in Missouri
  • Paoli Peaks in Indiana

Vail said all 17 new ski areas will work under the 2019-20 Epic Pass, Epic Local Pass, and Military Epic Pass. And Epic Day Pass holders will have access as part of their total number of days purchased. Vail also announced that it will honor Peak Resorts passes for the upcoming season and that anyone currently holding a Peak Resorts pass will have the option to upgrade to an Epic or Epic Local Pass.
