Winter Park Opens Saturday for Earliest Season on Record

Thanks to a cold autumn and early snowfall, Winter Park Ski Resort will celebrate the earliest opening day in its 80-year history.

Skiers with Winter Park or Ikon passes, take note: Winter Park opens Saturday, November 2! The resort announced the extra-early opening today.

“Mother Nature has gifted Colorado an early winter, and Winter Park has seen over 40 [inches] of snowfall throughout October. With excellent natural conditions and amplified snowmaking systems, thanks to $4 million in recent upgrades, Winter Park will open for the season on Saturday, November 2, 2019,” Winter Park said in a press release.

Colorado Early-Season Skiing

If you like early-season skiing, Colorado is having a banner year. Keystone also celebrated its earliest opening on history, turning the bull wheel on October 12. Arapaho Basin and Loveland opened on the same weekend.

At Winter Park, the first chair will run at 8:30 a.m. at the Arrow Lift. Skiers can rip some turns on three runs: Parkway, Lower Village Way, and Sorenson Park. While just a small fraction of the resort will be open, it’s enough to get snow-hungry skiers’ blood flowing.

“Mother Nature brought the snow to Winter Park especially early this year, so we are taking advantage of the conditions and are excited to open the mountain more than a week earlier than expected,” said Liz Agostin, marketing director for Winter Park Resort.

Saturday also marks the beginning of the 80th year of Colorado’s longest continuously running ski resort. On November 16, 2019, Winter Park will offer lift tickets for only $40 per person (minimum two lift tickets) to celebrate this milestone. This offer, valid for one day only, is available now.
