Forget driving your car or truck to the backcountry. Or skinning in. Instead, ride a horse. This Kiwi-produced short film from Patagonia tells how.

“Seeking a different way to explore their homeland, a group of Kiwi freeskiers loads up five horses and heads deep into the New Zealand backcountry,” teases the film. You’ve got to be a strong skier, sure, but an even stronger equestrian.

The location: the Candlesticks Range, Aotearoa, Selwyn, NZ. The skiing? Epic. The work it will take to get there, by horse? Considerable. Can it be done? It shapes up to be an adventure, for sure.

This clip is just part of the unique fun you’ll see in “Five Horses Deep.” The full film launches in fall 2023.
