We met Bryan Long, the creator of this short film, last year on a different mountain, Kings Peak in Utah. We had a sick climber in our group, and Long, a stranger then that we met on the trail, volunteered to hike with our man down to camp (Long had already reached the top) so that we could continue on up and tag the summit. But we digress. . . this video below, which Long shot and edited, features Aron Ralston and Tom O’Brien climbing and skiing the northern slopes of Mount Elbrus, Europe’s highest peak. The immense volcano is in the western Caucasus mountain range of Russia. From alpine meadows to an 18,510-foot summit, and then with glory shots of Ralston skiing spring-like snow for thousands of vert back down, this video offers a great look into the experience of getting up and back in a day on Elbrus’ towering face. —Stephen Regenold
