An employee of Yellowstone National Park found a human foot in one of the park’s hot springs on Tuesday. The investigation is ongoing.
A park employee found a human foot floating in Yellowstone National Park on Tuesday, park officials said Thursday.
Officials said that the employee found part of a foot, still inside a shoe, in the park’s famous Abyss Pool. The renowned pool is in the West Thumb Geyser Basin in the southern area of Yellowstone.
Rangers briefly closed the area and its parking lot before reopening it to visitors, said Morgan Warthin, Public Affairs Officer for Yellowstone.
An investigation is underway, Warthin said.
“The park does not have any other details to share about this incident currently,” she said. “We will provide additional information to the public in the next few days.”
Abyss Pool received its name for its impressive depth of more than 50 feet. With a scorching temperature of 140 degrees, it’s one of the deepest hot springs in the park, according to the Yellowstone website.
