Breathtaking lines, no sound — Benchetler swaps out ambient noise for artistic voiceover in his latest ski edit.
The twang of a steel guitar and country rock plays over Benchetler’s footage. There’s no chattering, no sound of skis bumping off powder, zero wind. In this calming, feel-good edit, Dakine athlete Chris Benchetler skis along some iconic spines in Haines, Alaska.
But fresh tracks aren’t his only focus. In the narration, he talks about his craft.
“This film captures Chris’ incredible art, smooth skiing, and his life as a father, all while diving into what progression means to him in every aspect of his life,” the film description reads.
What does progression of a sport, versus progression of your own craft, look like? “To me, progression is to keep evolving,” Benchetler said. “I’m always trying to work towards an elevated state. All you can really do is surrender your expectations.”
