Our home state of Minnesota is bursting into spring, and with it we used the occasion to get away from our daytime duties for a bit and into the urban outdoors of Minneapolis right from the GearJunkie office’s back door. The excuse was an afternoon gear test and a photo shoot for KEEN to highlight its new CNX line, which are lighter, more flexible versions of the brand’s hallmark sandal and shoe designs.

Lacing up for a walk down the old rail line

Here we look at four CNX models, the Tunari and Cascade for men, and the Haven and Clearwater for women. As all-around outdoorsy shoes we found these models to work well — from hiking paths to shorelines and, with the sandals, even into the water of the still-cold Minneapolis urban lakes. Like all the shoes in the CNX line, these ones are lighter (under 10 ounces), more flexible, and have a low-profile 4mm drop to keep feet planted more naturally on the ground.

(See more photos from the shoot on this page.)

Take a look at our daily stomping grounds in the photos below (and on page 2 of this post), all within a mile or so of the GearJunkie headquarters building on the Greenway Bike Path in Minneapolis. Bonus: We have several pair of CNX shoes in-house to give away. Comment on this post below which model you like (and why) and we’ll ship CNX shoes out to a few lucky readers next month.
