Safety first! In this video, an avalanche set off by explosives above the Stjernøy plant in Norway overwhelms the mine with seemingly destructive force. But according to the company, damage wasn’t too bad.
“The mountain Nabbaren at Stjernøy plant in Northern Norway is steep and regularly prone to avalanches,” reports Sibelco Nordic’s Facebook page on April 8. “As previous year there was now too much snow built up and today explosives were set off to initiate a “controlled” avalanche. The blasting was performed in a safe manner, but the avalanche caused some minor material damages. After a short production stop, the plant is now up and running. Have a look at the video and the powerful forces of nature filmed by one of our employees, Stian Isaksen.” —Sean McCoy
