On the heels of crowdfunded ‘touch-free’ tools, Leatherman steps in with its answer to shared-surface concerns.
Tired of gobbing on dollop after dollop of hand sanitizer and worrying whether it’s OK to touch your own face? As clean hygiene protocols sink in as a part of daily post-COVID life, companies continue to respond with products to serve germ-wary consumers.
And while regular handwashing remains the best practice, another measure is taking root: Don’t touch anything, ever. It may sound silly, but today, Leatherman lent its clout to the market for shared-surface multitools. The $25 Clean Contact Carabiner will grab door handles, push elevator buttons, and — well — crack open beers.
Because let’s face it, beer is as important now as it has ever been.
Plus, Leatherman machined the tool out of brass alloy, which is inherently antimicrobial. However, as the brand notes, the alloy will not prevent cross-contamination. So don’t use it to scratch your eye — wash your hands and do it the old-fashioned way.
Leatherman Clean Contact Carabiner
Ultralight germaphobes will appreciate the Clean Contact Carabiner‘s minuscule 2.55-ounce weight and 3-inch gate. As the name suggests, you can clip it to a pack or belt loop with the carabiner or a removable pocket clip.
Its hook shape allows users to pull open some doors, though not turn handles. For that, you’ll need gloves or a velociraptor. The end of the tool has a bump-out for pressing buttons and a sneaky little bottle opener hides inside the carabiner.
Leatherman will also donate $10 from every purchase between now and September 30 to the Coronavirus Response Fund for Nurses. This fund supports nurses through direct financial assistance, mental health services, advocacy, and critical safety information.
Want your own grabber/button-pusher for the war on germs? Head over to Leatherman to get your $25 Clean Contact Carabiner. And do it before September 30 to pitch in and support a great cause.
